VoIP Telephony Monitoring
Software
| The Need for a VoIP Monitoring
System |
In
today's Internet age, communication
spanning across geographies and time
zones has proved to be very vital for
the survival of businesses. Businesses
and their consumers are working and
collaborating closer than ever before.
While Telephonic communication remains
by and large the dominant medium of
communication, the cost factor on long
distance calls was a major hindrance
for productivity gains. The emergence
of IP Telephony built on Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP) has not only
helped in achieving huge reduction in
operating costs but has also enabled
rapid adoption of next generation communication
services on the same communications
infrastructure. VoIP has indeed revolutionized
the entire tele-communication system
by enabling cheaper, efficient &
better ways to communicate.
Deployment
of VoIP infrastructure alone is not
sufficient to sustain the lower cost
of business. A good monitoring system
is required to identify inefficiencies
in the system & ensure optimal performance
of the VoIP infrastructure continuously.
Monitoring the VoIP call traffic, voice
quality, success to failure ratio, analyzing
the reasons for failed calls and poor
quality calls are key to identifying
bottlenecks.
| VQManager - A Powerful Solution
|
ManageEngine VQManager is a powerful, web-based, real-time QoS
monitoring tool for VoIP networks. It enables IT administrators to monitor their
VoIP network for voice quality, call traffic, bandwidth utilization and keep
track of active calls and failed calls. VQManager can monitor any device or
user-agent that supports SIP(RFC 3261), Skinny and RTP/RTCP(RFC 3550). It serves
as a sound troubleshooting system while analyzing the failed calls or quality
deterioration. When problems occur in a call or voice quality, the administrator
can drill down to identify the cause behind a sub-optimally performing network.
It also generates alarms when quality deteriorates beyond a user defined
threshold limit.
A typical deployment scenario for VQManager is depicted in the diagram below:

VQManager provides traffic graphs over varying time periods showing the
bandwidth usage trend and traffic patterns. Intuitive reports, pie charts, bar
diagrams and tabular reports enable the administrator to monitor and take
control of the total VoIP network from a single web client.
Key
Features
| Non-Intrusive Real-Time
Monitoring |
- Proactive monitoring of Bandwidth utilization and QoS metrics such as
Jitter, Latency, Packet loss
- Real-time display of key information such as Jitter, Latency, Packet loss,
Call count, Average call duration, Bandwidth utilization, Alarms, Top talkers
etc.
- ITU standard E-Model based MOS calculation
- Drill down of information to minute level of precision
|
- Alarm generation on vital parameters viz., Too many consecutive incomplete
calls, SIP Errors, ALOC (High or low), Low ASR , High Average Answer delay time
and High Voice Bandwidth utilization based on user-defined threshold and
severity
- Configurable E-mail alerting
- SNMP trap generation and forwarding to integrate with higher level network
management systems
- Overall QoS trend pertaining to call and participants
- Codec details
- Pictorial representation of the call flow, plotting all the SIP and Skinny
requests that took place from call start to call end. This comes in handy for
debugging error calls
- Call Trace of each and every SIP, Skinny and RTP/RTCP packets transferred in
a call
- Pictorial representation of call flow information to debug call setup issues
- Raw packet information
- Bandwidth usage graph with split up between voice and non-voice data to help
analyze bandwidth congestions
- Detailed view of call usage trend & QoS Metrics
- Call Metrics such as Incoming and Outgoing Call QoS metrics, total active
Call duration, Average call duration & ASR
- Call categorization such as incoming, outgoing, unanswered, error, good and
poor quality calls
- Pre-built VoIP QoS & VoIP Activity reports
- Cutomized reporting on problem IP phones and Call Status based reports
- Automated e-mailing of customized, scheduled reports
| Capture and Display
Filtering |
- Filtering criteria to capture / monitor call traffic from specific IP
Addresses /locations
- Flexible filtering of data based on IP address, SIP URL, Cisco phone ID,
phone number and name
- Provisions for saving the captured packets in libpcap format for post-event
troubleshooting
- Can be used to monitor any device or user-agent that supports SIP, Skinny
and RTP/RTCP
- Support for processing Cisco™ CallManager(4.x and 5.x), Swyx™ 6.0, Vovida
VOCAL™, Tekelec™ 5.6, Shoretel™ 6.1, PortaOne™ and Asterisk™ CDRs
- Different options to import call information using CDR files through FTP
access or uploaded via HTTP. Alternatively, the CDR can be sent as a Syslog
message too
- Provides a web-based user interface for remote access using
javascript-enabled standard web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer(6.0
+), Mozilla FireFox (1.5+)
